Make a JAN/EAN-13 barcode image for a product code

The job

You have a JAN/EAN product code and need the actual scannable barcode graphic for a label, a mockup, or a document. EAN-13 is the retail standard worldwide; JAN is the same standard as used in Japan (prefixes 49 and 45).

Worked example

Enter the 12 digits 491234567890: the tool computes the check digit (4) and renders the full 13-digit barcode with the digits printed below the bars. Enter all 13 digits instead and it validates the check digit — a typo shows an error rather than a broken barcode.

Download the PNG and place it in your label. The quiet zones (white margins) are included — do not crop them off, scanners need them.

• EAN/JAN-13 only. Code128, UPC-A, and other symbologies are not supported.
• The checksum runs modulo 10 on alternating 1×/3× weights — it catches typos, not transpositions of every kind.

Before it goes to print

The PNG is a faithful rendering of the bar pattern, but scannability depends on print size and contrast. Print at the intended size (the standard module width is 0.33 mm; smaller than ~80% of nominal gets unreliable) and verify with a real scanner before a print run.
